Welcome to Our Team!

There are a good few state requirements employees need to have for working in childcare. We’ve given all the steps below to help make this process as simple as possible!

Step 1

Enroll in the Central Background Registry

This is a background check specific to childcare. It typically takes around 2 weeks- but for those who have lived outside the state of Oregon, it may take longer.

After taking this step, you will receive an email containing your Fieldprint code. This will allow you to book a fingerprint scan appointment, which is required to complete your background check. This is booked and completed through the company Fieldprint.

Step 2

Book and Go To your Fingerprint Scan Appointment

The sooner you complete your fingerprint scan, the better. Doing so allows you to become “conditionally enrolled” meaning that you can begin to work as the remainder of your background check processes. We have been able to get people in as soon as 2 days after their fingerprint scan!

Make sure you look at the email you receive from the central background registry to find your Fieldprint code

Step 3

Onboard on Gusto

Gusto is our payroll software. Once you accept the offer letter in your email, we can send you an invitation to onboard. This process will gather information for taxes and direct deposit. Please watch your email for that invitation, and if you don’t have it, reach out to us!

Step 4

Take the 4 Required classes from PSU

These are 4 online, free, required courses from the Portland State University. They are like an online slideshow, and take about an hour each. You ONLY NEED THESE 4! No others on the site are needed. You’ll need to make an online account and get started from there.

1.Foundations for Learning (FFL)

2. Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety (ICCHS)

3.Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN)

4. Safe Sleep for Oregon's Infants (SS)

Step 5

Get CPR and First Aid Certified

If you already have an UNEXPIRED first aid/CPR card for adult and pediatric, you can skip this step! If not you will need to get re-certified.

There are a variety of options available for getting OR renewing this certification. Red cross is an option, or there are usually cheaper local options available. Please reach out if you need help finding an option!

Step 6

Get your Food Handler’s Card

If you already have an UNEXPIRED food handler’s card, you can skip this step! If not you will need to get re-certified.

There is a specific food handler’s card for early childhood education that goes over formula and breast milk handling. If you do not have this version, but already have a regular food handler’s card, you will just need to get the early childhood education version when your regular one expires. You do not need to get the early childhood education version right now if you already have a regular, unexpired one.

If you have an expired card, or are getting it for the first time, get the early childhood education version here!

Step 7

Create an Oregon Registry Online Account (ORO)

ORO is the way that the state tracks our employee’s qualifications and training, ensuring all legal requirements are met. Below is the link to the Oregon Registry Online. You will need to make an account, and upload the following to your account. Photos of cards are fine, as well as PDFs or scans.

  1. All 4 PSU Class Certificates

  2. Food Handler’s Card

  3. First Aid/CPR Card
